Sensational alternative rock artists Violent Femmes and Echo and The Bunnymen are bringing their signature sounds to the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion!
The Violent Femmes were formed in Milwaukee in 1980 by bassist Brian Ritchie and percussionist Victor DeLorenzo. They recruited lead vocalist and guitarist Gordon Gano to complete the line up and Brian came up with the band’s name (in this case ‘femme’ refers to the Milwaukee area's slang for wimps). On August 23 1981, the English-American rock band The Pretenders were going perform at the Oriental Theater in Milwaukee and The Violent Femmes happened to be busking in front of the venue. They were discovered by The Pretenders’ lead guitarist James Honeyman-Scott and that discovery soon led to a record deal. They released their eponymous debut album in 1983 and though it wasn’t a chart hit, it became a cult classic and, close to a decade after its release, it finally achieved Platinum status. The band's been through numerous line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Brian, Gordon, and John Sparrow (drums). They’ve had a stellar career with 7 more studio albums, 4 live albums, 4 compilation albums, 3 video albums, 11 music videos, 1 extended play, and 19 singles. They’re one of the most commercially successful alternative rock acts of the 1980s and 1990s.
Don’t miss your chance to see the artists whose geeky, nervous songwriting and blend of punk rock with folk rock produced several cult classics during the 80s!
